Specialist Savion Amari Donovan Johnson, who was deployed to the Eagle Move crossing, was charged Sunday with evading arrest, smuggling of individuals and illegal carry of a weapon.
Johnson allegedly led a high-speed chase with cops in Brackettville, Texas, after the silver GMC SUV he was driving abruptly circled at a Border Patrol checkpoint on Freeway 674, Kinney County Sheriff Brad Coe advised NewsNation.
Reaching speeds of greater than 100 miles per hour, bodycam and dashcam footage present Johnson being dragged out of the automobile and arrested round 3:45 p.m. after main officers on the 15-mile-long chase.
Coe mentioned the Texas Division of Public Security helped with the pursuit and used spike strips to cease the fleeing SUV.
The sheriff confirmed Johnson, 26, was a member of the Texas Nationwide Guard and was assigned to Operation Lone Star.
The soldier was allegedly promised $5,000-$6,000 to smuggle the unlawful immigrant, in accordance with the report.
“If the allegations are true, the accused is a traitor and felony,” Texas Governor Greg Abbott mentioned in an announcement to the outlet.
“We’ve got zero tolerance for Texans who violate legal guidelines that straight contradict the mission we’re looking for to realize.”
