Texas refuses to comply with Biden administration’s cease-and-desist letter about border access

Texas is refusing to adjust to a cease-and-desist letter from the Biden administration over actions by the state which have impeded U.S. Border Patrol brokers from accessing a part of the border with Mexico.

In a letter to the Division of Homeland Safety, Texas Lawyer Common Ken Paxton rejected the Biden administration’s request for the state to “stop and desist” its takeover of Shelby Park, an epicenter of southwest border unlawful immigration in Eagle Go.

“As a result of the information and regulation aspect with Texas, the State will proceed using its constitutional authority to defend her territory, and I’ll proceed defending these lawful efforts in court docket,” Paxton wrote.

When reached for remark, a DHS spokesperson referred NBC Information to Division of Homeland Safety Common Counsel Jonathan Meyer’s letter this week directing the state to cease blocking the Border Patrol’s full entry to roughly 2½ miles of the U.S.-Mexico border occupied by the state’s Nationwide Guard.

DHS officers stated Saturday {that a} girl and two youngsters drowned within the Rio Grande after Border Patrol brokers “had been bodily barred by Texas officers from coming into the world” underneath orders from Republican Gov. Greg Abbott.

The Texas Navy Division disputed the DHS assertion, saying its personnel had been conscious of a misery report however had not detected any distressed migrants.

A White Home spokesperson criticized Abbott’s immigration insurance policies in response to the drownings, saying in an announcement this week that his “political stunts are merciless, inhumane and harmful.”

In Wednesday’s letter, Paxton stated any suggestion the state was chargeable for the deaths “is vile and, as you now must be conscious, fully inaccurate.”

The Biden administration has threatened to refer the matter to the Justice Division if Texas denies Border Patrol brokers full entry to the world.
