Hearth and Emergency NZ mentioned it was alerted to the blaze at 11.04pm on Thursday, and the primary crews arrived by about 11.10pm.
Crews and specialist home equipment from throughout Wellington have been known as in to the incident.
By about 5.20am Friday, the hearth was believed to have burned by way of about 10 hectares of vegetation.
Two helicopters have been anticipated to be on scene from 6am to assist battle the blaze, Fenz mentioned.
