No tsunami danger to B.C. after earthquake in Taiwan, officials say

There seems to be no tsunami menace to the Pacific coastal areas of North America following a robust earthquake in Taiwan.

The U.S. Nationwide Tsunami Warning Heart says no tsunami is anticipated in B.C., Alaska, California, Oregon or Washington state.

Buildings have been broken in Taiwan after a quake hit through the morning rush Wednesday, with a small tsunami reaching southern Japanese islands.

No harm or accidents have been reported in Japan, although residents within the Okinawa area have been urged to remain on protected floor till tsunami advisories have been lifted.

Taiwan’s earthquake monitoring company gave the magnitude as 7.2 whereas the U.S. Geological Survey put it at 7.4.

There was no quick phrase on casualties.
