The chair of NatWest has stated it’s not at the moment “that troublesome” to purchase a home within the UK.
Sir Howard Davies stated individuals should “save” to get on the property ladder – as that’s the means it has “at all times been”.
“I don’t suppose it’s that troublesome in the mean time,” he informed BBC’s As we speak programme on Friday 5 January.
“You must save, and that’s the means it at all times was.”
Sir Howard’s feedback sparked backlash from listeners and he later clarified he “didn’t intend to underplay” the challenges consumers face.
“My remark was meant to replicate that on this context, entry to mortgages is more easy than it has been,” he stated in a press release to the BBC.
