STORY: Footage broadcast on Georgian tv confirmed Mamuka Mdinaradze, chief of the ruling Georgian Dream get together’s parliamentary faction and a driving power behind the invoice, being punched within the face by opposition MP Aleko Elisashvili whereas talking from the despatch field.

The incident prompted a wider brawl between a number of lawmakers, an occasional prevalence in Georgia’s typically raucous parliament.

Georgian Dream mentioned earlier this month it could reintroduce laws requiring organizations that settle for funds from overseas to register as overseas brokers or face fines, 13 months after protests pressured it to shelve the plan.

It says the invoice is critical to fight what it calls “pseudo-liberal values” imposed by foreigners, and to advertise transparency.

The invoice has strained relations with European nations and the US, who’ve mentioned they oppose its passage. The European Union, which gave Georgia candidate standing in December, has mentioned the transfer is incompatible with the bloc’s values.

In a press release, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze defended the draft legislation as selling accountability, and mentioned it was “not clear” why Western nations opposed it.
