Feline good: Oli makes history as the first cat to sail in the Sydney to Hobart yacht race

A part of the crew of the Sylph VI – the oldest boat within the race – Oli and his proprietor, retired naval officer Bob Williams, will traverse the 628 nautical-mile journey together with their co-skipper.

The ten-year-old feline has loads of expertise at sea, having sailed with Williams for about 5 years, together with a visit on the Tasman Sea to New Zealand.
“He’s an skilled sailor. He’s spent a number of years on the boat now. He’s been to New Zealand and again. So I feel he’s, you recognize, received his sea legs. I feel he’s all good,” Williams advised Reuters.

Because the ships race in the direction of Hobart’s Structure Dock, opponents are set to battle sudden and erratic wind modifications, hail, rain and diminished visibility all the way in which down the NSW coast.
