Delhi Police beefs up security amid AAP call to ‘gherao’ PM residence against Kejriwal’s arrest

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has strengthened safety at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence after the AAP referred to as for a “gherao” to protest towards the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, an officer stated on Tuesday.

The police have additionally beefed up safety in a number of different components of the nationwide capital.

A Delhi Visitors Police officer stated motion is prone to be affected in components of New Delhi and Central Delhi because of the protest.

“Part 144 (of the CrPC) is already imposed across the Prime Minister’s residence and nobody might be allowed to protest,” he added.

Delhi Minister Gopal Rai had earlier introduced plans to “gherao” the PM’s residence on Tuesday to protest towards Kejriwal’s arrest.

Rai had additionally stated that “mega protests” can be held nationwide.

Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in reference to a money-laundering case linked to the now-scrapped excise coverage on March 21.

He’s within the company’s custody until Thursday.

The AAP nationwide convenor is accused of soliciting kickbacks from liquor merchants in alternate for favours, the central company has claimed.
