For personnel of the Central Reserve Police Drive’s Battalion 150, at present engaged in preventing the harmful Maoist insurgents of the Folks’s Liberation Guerrilla Military at Tekalgudem in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, an uncommon companion helps lighten the temper.

Chamunda, a 10-year-old male goat, has been with the battalion for practically its complete life, with the personnel taking it alongside as they transfer from one publish to a different as a part of their combat in opposition to the Naxals.

On Thursday, a day after safety forces cordoned the brand new police camp at Tekalgudem and drove again the Naxals – an encounter wherein three CRPF personnel died, together with one from Battalion 150 – Chamunda may very well be seen shifting freely across the camp, chewing on leaves.

It was in 2014, when the battalion was posted at Kankerlanka village in Sukma, that some personnel discovered the goat, then simply round 45 days outdated and affected by sickness, deserted by its herd close to their camp.

It was unable to stroll, and the battalion took it below its care and nursed it again to well being. “Every time we go for a process or return from a process we chant Chamunda Mata ki jai. In order that day, we took Chamunda Devi’s title and gave the goat a malaria pill. After consuming the pill, the goat bought higher and stayed again within the camp,” a jawan from the battalion stated.

Festive offer

The battalion, which has robust hyperlinks to Ajmer in Rajasthan, the place the Chamunda Devi temple is positioned, named the goat Chamunda.

It has travelled with the battalion within the decade since then, and there may be even a particular car used to move it from camp to camp. Throughout this era, Chamunda has moved with the battalion by seven police camps within the Naxal-affected Bastar area.If Chamunda falls in poor health, the jawans go to the extent of getting drugs for him all the way in which from Raipur.

“He is sort of a member of the family now. Chamunda may be very disciplined, pleasant and playful. Not like different goats, if you push him, he doesn’t hit you along with his horns, as a substitute he pushes you again. He likes it after we pet him, and doesn’t eat or drink water till we serve it to him. He freely strikes across the camp – from one tent to a different – and the jawans fortunately feed him,” a jawan stated.
