Oliver Dowden Says UK Will Stop Arms Sales To Israel If It Breaks International Law

The UK will halt arms gross sales to Israel whether it is discovered to be breaking worldwide regulation in its warfare with Hamas, Oliver Dowden has mentioned.

The deputy prime minister mentioned the federal government had “considerations” about the way in which the nation is conducting itself in Gaza.

However he insisted that, for the time being, the authorized recommendation “has not modified” and that arms gross sales to Tel Aviv might proceed.

Dowden made his feedback amid mounting requires the West to cease supplying munitions to Israel because the loss of life toll in Gaza continues to rise.

On the BBC’s ‘Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg’ present, Dowden repeatedly prevented the query when requested if Israel was appearing “throughout the regulation”.

He mentioned: “I feel that Israel is conducting a reputable marketing campaign and it’s doing so in a really, very troublesome atmosphere the place it’s dealing with Hamas – a terrorist organisation that hides inside its civilian inhabitants.”

He added that international secretary David Cameron’s recommendation on whether or not arms exports to Israel have been authorized “has not modified”.

Kuenssberg then requested: “So at the moment, you consider Israel is appearing throughout the regulation?”

Dowden replied: “The important thing factor is ‘is it reputable, can we lawfully promote arms to Israel’ and sure, that’s the case.”

Later within the interview, Kuenssberg requested him: “If the UK authorities receives authorized recommendation that claims Israel is in breach of worldwide regulation, will arms gross sales cease.”

Dowden mentioned: “We are going to after all act in accordance with our obligations in respect of arms gross sales, and the way in which that that works is there’s authorized advicem, the international secretary reaches a judgment and he provides that recommendation to the enterprise secretary.

“If it’s the case that we will’t lawfully achieve this then after all we gained’t provide these arms.
