Rep. Mike Turner advised NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Saturday that he sounded the alarm to his Home colleagues about Russia’s plan to place nuclear weapons in house out of worry that the Biden administration was “sleepwalking into a global disaster.”

“We have to make sure that we avert what could possibly be a global disaster,” he added.

His remarks got here on the heels of a press release he put out on Wednesday informing the general public that the Home Intelligence Committee has “made accessible to all members of Congress data regarding a severe nationwide safety risk.”

Later, NBC Information confirmed that the intelligence was associated to Russia creating a space-based nuclear program to assault satellites.

“What I’ve referred to as for is for the administration to declassify this, and my concern is that that is sort of just like the Chinese language spy balloon and the administration is sort of hiding maybe, you already know, some inaction,” Turner mentioned on Saturday.

His assertion and the following revelation concerning the nature of the labeled intelligence made waves round Washington on Wednesday as some members of Congress sought to tamp down issues about any imminent threats from Russia.

“Individuals shouldn’t panic,” Rep. Jim Himes, D-Conn., the rating member of the Intelligence Committee, mentioned on Wednesday.

However Turner on Saturday underscored his perception that Russia poses a “very severe risk.”

“Everybody who’s checked out it makes use of the identical language that I’ve — that it’s a very severe risk,” Turner advised “Meet the Press” on Saturday, including that the administration is now “starting to take motion.”

“We met with [national security adviser] Jake Sullivan, and he started to put out a plan that hopefully would start to deal with this,” Turner added, showing on “Meet the Press” just about from Germany, the place he’s attending the Munich Safety Convention.

Sullivan spoke publicly concerning the concern on Wednesday, saying at a White Home briefing that he’d already reached out to transient a bipartisan Gang of Eight, comprising the highest leaders from the Home and Senate, to “provide myself up for a private briefing.”

“That’s been on the books, so I’m a bit stunned that Congressman Turner got here out publicly right now, upfront of a gathering on the books,” Sullivan mentioned Wednesday.
